Both the Garmin Approach G8 and G7 Golf Course GPS devices utilize a rechargeable battery that gives up to 15 hours use before needing to be recharged.
The Garmin Approach G8 is the updated model over the G7, with the addition of automatic Wi-Fi course updates, PinPointer (that indicates where the pin is even if you can’t see it) instead of the G7’s Green View (which lets you zoom in on the green and drag the flag to position it where you see it), and a sleeker design with a larger screen. The Garmin Approach G8 features a 3” touch color capacitive touch screen while the compact G7 features a 2.6” color multi-touch screen.
The Garmin Approach G8 is pre-loaded with over 40,000 golf courses from around the world, while the G7 is pre-loaded with over 30,000. There’s no charge for updates with either device.
Both the Garmin Approach G8 and G7 let you see targets and track stats. There’s colorful layup arcs at 100, 150, 200 and 250 yards that let you know exactly how far you need to hit when laying up. With both devices’ Touch Targeting, you can touch any point on the sunlight-readable display screen and it will show the precise distance to that exact spot, whether it’s a fairway, hazard, landing area, front green, middle green or back green.
