The Garmin Approach G8 is the updated model over the G7, with the addition of automatic Wi-Fi course updates, PinPointer (that indicates where the pin is even if you can’t see it) instead of the G7’s Green View (which lets you zoom in on the green and drag the flag to position it where you see it), and a sleeker design with a larger screen.  The Garmin Approach G8 features a 3” touch color capacitive touch screen while the compact G7 features a 2.6” color multi-touch screen.

Summary:

Both the Garmin Approach G8 and G7 Golf Course GPS devices are straightforward and easy to use with a clear screen that’s easy to see even in bright light and the ability to increase the font size with the Big Numbers Mode makes for easy viewing of the front, middle and back distances.  The PinPointer technology of the Approach G8 is definitely worth the extra $$s if you can afford it and with this you also get the larger screen with a better resolution, and the ability for the device to auto update via Wi-Fi.

The Approach G7 is still a good Golf Course GPS device, utilizing Green View instead of PinPointer and has a slightly smaller screen.  It doesn’t have Wi-Fi built in to auto update but you can easily connect it to a computer via USB.  For the lower price, the Garmin Approach G7 is well worth considering.

Both devices have the ability to hide or turn off specific functions for tournament play.

See what some customers who have bought either the Garmin Approach G8 or Garmin Approach G7 Golf Course GPS have to say about them:

C.L.:
“I’ve only used the Garmin Approach G8 twice so far, but have found it to be relatively easy and intuitive to use.  I haven’t bothered pairing my phone to it so I can’t comment on that feature, but everything I have used on this device is great.”

W.B.:
“The Garmin Approach G8 performs exactly as advertised.  It easily lasts a round of golf on a single charge.  It’s a reasonable price compared to other golf course GPS devices, does what it states, and I would recommend it.”

A.C.:
“The Garmin Approach G7 worked great right out of the box.  Accuracy is excellent.”

J.W.:
“The Garmin Appoach G7 is small, accurate and easy to read. Very happy.”

S.D.:
“Overall, I would say the Garmin Approach G7 is the best golf GPS.  I previously tried a different manufacturer’s watch Golf GPS and it was not comfortable or easy to read on sunny days.  This one is simple to use, accurate and portable.  Everybody I golf with now uses it too!”
